Have you taken Avandia for treatment of type 2 diabetes? Unfortunately, this drug, once seen as the number one treatment for type 2 diabetes can have disastrous side effects. Since the drug was approved by the FDA, this agency has been monitoring its heart-related side effects.

These side effects include fluid retention, edema, and congestive heart failure. Data has shown in controlled clinical trials that there is a potentially significant increase in the risk of heart attack and heart-related deaths in patients taking Avandia. There have also been reports of side effects that include hepatitis and liver failure.
The risk of heart attack has been shown to increase by as much as 43 percent when a patient is taking Avandia. The FDA issued a safety alert on Avandia last May.www.fda.gov. In this alert, the FDA will take the issue of cardiovascular risk of Avandia to an Advisory Committee. Of course, the great fear for those suffering from type 2 diabetes is that they are already at an increased risk of heart disease and death. It doesn't seem logical that a medication designed to aleviate the effects of diabetes can increase one's chance of death.
