Each year we hear of innocent children who are injured by school buses. There are basic principals of school bus safety drivers must follow. The number one rule is that safety has to always be the primary concern.

School buses have to have efficiency, and economy, but there is no more important factor than overall safety. Usually when a child is injured or dies from a school bus injury, the driver failed to follow a basic principal of safety.
The most dangerous part of a child's day is the loading and unloading of the school bus. It is imperative that drivers perform certain procedures in order to protect students from death or injury. Drivers of school buses have full responsibility for the safety of students while they are boarding the bus, on the bus, leaving the bus and crossing the road.
The school district has the responsibility to select only qualified drivers and to ensure the drivers selected are properly trained in the basic principals of safety. If the school district fails in this responsibility its insurance is held accountable and must pay for the harms and losses that follow.
As parents we trust the school district to select only competent drivers and ensure the drivers are trained. If more parents would insist the school districts performed their lawful function, our children would not have the injuries we see far too often.
